OM648 cold startup issue
My 2006 E320 CDI with the Legendary OM648 is having a sputtering issue at cold startup. The glow plugs were just replaced about 10,000 miles ago (car currently has 111,000 miles) and there's no error codes on the modules according to my Star Scanner. I had the fuel rail control valve replaced along with the crankshaft position sensor. However I still have the original EGR Valve and Swirl flaps. Could those be causing my cold start sputtering issue and slow acceleration when the engine is cold?
If so is it possible to delete the swirl flaps by cutting the linkage from the inlet motor to the swirl flaps? Or will that instantly throw a check engine light even if the inlet motor is still working?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Clog swirl flaps will not clean themselves by cutting linkage.
Liqui Molly sells cleaner just for that.
What is your rail pressure?
