Intermittent, No circuit 50 signal to engine ecu, stall on light throttle

Hello I am hoping for some help with a sprinter w906 2018 314 CDI manual

The van will start once in 50 attempts.
The Ezs sends the circuit 50 signal but the dme doesn't receive it ( per xentry )
When the van starts, the dme instantly shows circuit 50 received and starts.

When the van does start, it stalls on very light throttle 1 -1.5k. literally impossible to hold it.
If I rev it to 2k+ it'll hold it all day but it will loose communications to xentry dme.

The engine can bus has correct voltages and resistance, interior can has correct voltages but mega ohms resistance. Unsure if it has terminating resistors or not.

The van has no fault codes
Had replacement ECU and front Sam

Start authorising every time

Just no start signal into dme.

Any thoughts on my next testing point ?

Oscilloscope on engine can bus ?
How to test if start signal is actually getting to dme ?
Issue with Ezs ? Only pretending to send signal ?
Could this also cause ruining issue ?

Any help would be gratefully received

Yeah, can bus cable from abs unit faulty. It goes all the way to passenger side, then back to drivers foot well, to go to can bus connection point.
When I removed the abs can bus from this terminal connector, the van worked perfectly.

The can bus cables had a miniscule short, eg read 2 + mega ohms resistance, should be OL infinity

Ran a new cable, all good

Obviously, anything on the engine can bus, could do the same.

Unplug anything not entirely necessary for starting, see what happens

your a life saver unplugged the abs can from the distributor block and bang its fires up pefect and runs great, the fault is ether abs modual or can wiring issue, but this has been a life saver, il yest the can wiring to ground and if its short il route new wires for it, much appreciate the fast reply

Mine was a short together, not to ground.

Glad it helped you out and saved you the pain 👍

ESP/ABS normally shares CAN-C with:
  • ECU engine
  • TCU tranny
  • CGW gateway
  • ISM shifter
  • tank pump module

You can get exact network topology from Xentry, a Pro scanner or free from WIS diagram.

I had a similar issue on my 2022 GLE53 and it ended up being a faulty MAF sensor which was causing intermittent readings to the ECU. After replacing it, the issue went away completely. Worth double checking since its a pretty common culprit in our AMG models
