I’ve recently bought a Mercedes S211 220CDI 2009, and the check engine light is dead, it doesn’t comes on when you turn the key, we checked with MB Star, and some previous owner had deleted the DTC program, it was also some other files that were wrong, but now we have put som Mercedes original files in the car, and the DTC program is restored, so the CEL should work now, but it’s not? Have someone had this problem before? And how do I solve it?
Quite possible, that when they hacked ECU and CEL was on all the time, they disabled the light.
I have seen pictures of cluster gauges painted over to hide the lights.
For modern diesels, I highly advise to drive with monitoring scanner, like ScanGauge to see DPF regeneration.
Such a scanner will also read the codes, while on the run.
