E550 coupe - traction control and other features

this thread is to open a discussion on the driving experience and the various systems in the e coupe. just a random blog to keep me occupied over the holidays. feel free to post anything related to the e coupe.

i've had my e550 coupe for 2 months now and already have 4k miles. it has taken me a while to get used to the power. i haven't had this much HP since my 2005 M3. i finally turned off the traction control for regular driving - makes a huge difference. i'm not as confident letting loose in the benz as i was in the bmw because the road feel just isn't the same. anyway, i'm getting the hang of it and really having a great time. (my tires will be gone in no time though. speaking of tires, they put pirelli p zeros on my car. i'm wondering if they do that for all 550's?) when i turn off the traction control, i think the cornering traction control is still on. any ideas/thoughts/comments about this or any other features?

I suspect you have optional wheels and tires. Both the basic car and the Appearance Package have 235/40 R18 front,255/35 R18 rear all-season tires.

As you know, P ZEROs turn into "hockey pucks" in cold weather and certainly aren't considered "all-season."

if you hold the button for a while, does it turn off the backup system? i know in my M3 i could hold it and the symbol on the dash went from yellow to red, meaning all systems were off (or most!). i have definitely noticed that if i push the button to turn off the traction control, the cornering systems are still active.

I think the 550s with 18" wheels all come with P Zero Nero All Seasons. Mine did and the window sticker and the tires match. I think this is a new specialty tire from Pirelli. Check it out: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....ero+All+Season

No. Pushing/holding the button will only partially disable it.
The only way to fully disable it is by using dyno mode, but by doing so, you also lose ABS, BAS, and power steering.
