Crazy spare part costs

I have had my E250 CDI for three months and love it. Last week driving home another car clipped the driver’s side mirror. The mirror cracked and the clear plastic that the LED turn signal shines through also cracked. No damage to the paint work of the mirror housing.

Shock and horror. You have to purchase a complete housing AU$350.00, but wait there is more… This does not include the glass mirror.
GLASS MIRROR is AU$1400.00 What a rip off. Almost AU$2000.00 to fix a clipped mirror.
(Mirror is an auto dimming unit. A normal glass mirror is about AU$250.00)

As an option to fit auto dimming mirrors that includes folding mirrors and the internal rear view mirror when ordering a vehicle is $630.00.

Have discovered the mirrors on my E coupe are the same as on a SLK (171)

Build on E coupe from January now uses the same mirror as the E sedan. Personally I prefer the SLK mirror as the larger sedan mirror does not look as streamlined.
