Feedback, please...

Hello, this is my first post in the E-Class forum. I am contemplating on ordering a 2011 C207 with the 350 motor and would appreciate feedback on how you like your cars.

Would you recommend going with the E550? I would like to order the car
with Premium Package and AMG Sports Package. Debating on metallic white, palladium silver or iridium silver.

I know the AMG 18" 5 twin sports wheels (same as those on the W204 with Sports Pakage) will be available in 2011, but only on the E550 coupe. I really want these wheels on the car.

Thanks in advance for you input. Congrats and enjoy your new rides.

2010 e350 coupe
I got my fully loaded c207 from stephen in richmond with every option except the v-8 and mb brace.

It came with the 6 spoke double 18 wheels which look nice but really hard to clean.

I went with the 350 vs the 550 strictly on gas consumption and with a little over 1000 km's i am getting about 24 city and 33-34 highway.

With the 550 i would expect to be 20-30 percent less. Given that premium is around $5.90 a gallon that 20-30 percent can make a big difference.

As for power, in performance mode this car can really go and has a lot of low end torque.

I went with white outside and 2 tone red/black interior.

You can expect a realistic 3-1/2 month delay from ordering to delivery as every car in BC is pre-sold, at least at this time.

Try the 350 in performance mode to see what you think, the problem in BC is no dealers have demo cars.

As for wheels you might be able to make a switch prior to delivery I heard that someone did just when I picked up my vehicle.

They now come with the new michelin tires which are XL rated for the rears and have the green leaf for 12% better gas mileage, these tires were specifically designed for this vehicle and carry the MO rating.

I went with the e550 mainly because of the extra power. I don't think there was that much difference in fuel economy between the 2, I do like having the v8 and feel that is was worth the extra cash.

The V8 is nice. I don't enjoy the 300km/tank fuel economy (all city driving), but I wanted the nappa leather and the other V8-only touches.

is that a 60 or 80 l tank? Do you do a lot of typical Toronto driving, i.e. traffic, stop 'n go?

I am leaning towards an e550c as well, or a C63.

66L, all inner-city Toronto driving. Admittedly, I'm not exactly easy on the throttle either.

Shame they didn't put an 80L tank in there. I had a '05 Mustang GT with similar size tank that was roughly the same so....two thumbs up I guess!

Coladin, get the C63, I average about 180KM per tank besides, your other car is the diesel.

I find I get the same gas mileage with an 8 or 6 cylinder, because with the 6 I'm more into the throttle to get what I feel is the correct acceleration.

2010 E350 Coupe, 2010 GL350 Bluetec
I own my E350 Coupe for 8 months now and put just over 3000 miles on it. It has almost all options except for MBrace and rear airbags. I had had some buyer's remorse until recently. I thought to myself why didn't I have a 550 back then since the price difference isn't that much considering that many extras I have. I wasn't there at the dealer for an E Coupe that day, but that's a long story.

I however feel better recently that I started to drive it harder after run-in. Practically speaking it has more than enough power for my driving style and the need for more is really mental that I know there is a more powerful version out there and I could have had it for the same, or even less (if I opt for fewer options), that I spent on the E350 Coupe.

Gas consumption isn't a consideratioin for me since I don't drive it that much. We take wife's GL350 BlueTec for long distance trips.

So to choose between the 350 and 550, I guess it's up to your driving style, and what kind of person you think you are. As above mentioned, I know I will never need the power of a 550 (actually I probably won't use all the power of the 350), but I know I will always regret a little bit in my heart not getting it all the way to the top of the range.

The price difference is more than just the difference in MSRP. On a lease, the interest rate (money factor) and the residuals are worse for the 550 than the 350 making the 550 more per month than the MSRP would suggest.

I wonder if the same holds true for the trade in value down the road when comparing the 550 to the 350 given the present cost of gas

Absolutely - hence the lower residual values on the bigger engines.
