European Delivery Concerns?

So its coming close to time for me to order my new E550 cab and i am seriously considering doing the European Delivery program. Seeing how the dealers aren't giving much discount it seems like a great way to get a vacation and still save 1000-2000 bucks. I have read up on it and see that a lot of people have had a great experience doing the ED program....by i have concerns. Are there drawbacks. Gotcha's? My sales guy seems to want to steer me away from it telling horror stories such as customs tearing apart peoples cars at the port and things like that. Are these real concerns?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thank
Jake

E550 Coupe
Jake,

I got my E550 coupe via european delievery this past April with my wife. It was a great time! Factory tour was great and you get to dry your car on the autobahn. We took the blackforest trip and the hotels are very good and a great deal with the package. The only drawback is waiting six months for your car to get back to the states. The car gets processed at a Mercedes vehicle prep center when it arrives at port. So I don't think it gets treated any differently then any other merc.

Wow. 6 months? I would hate to own a car thats being transported for 6 months. Surely its not that long. I was expecting 4-6 weeks.
