E550 Horsepower Question
I noticed that the CL 550 has 429hp. The E550 has 382. Are the engines in the cars the same? If so, is there a way to change the ECU settings to increase the hp?
To rephrase, why is it that both cars are 550s but there is a pretty significant hp difference?

Some changes with the Intakes and air filters can really make a difference but trust me, the E coupe will win a drag race against the CL550 due to the weight

E550 Coupe
I am curious to find out how similar the motors are, and if the E 550 is capable of the same hp numbers, preferably using factory parts and tuning.
I agree with you Mashat, intakes and filters can make a significant difference but I have never seen an intake make 50 extra hp.
So what it is that makes the CL have more hp? Intake, ECU tune, exhaust?

The CL has 429hp due to the new TT DFI engine, it also has 516 lb ft of torque. The current E550 engine is a non turbo, non DFI engine. The 2011 E550 will have thie new engine detuned from the CL's #'s.

Thank you RJC. I just verified that on the mecedes benz website. Now the question is how to tune the current 550 motor...do you have any insight?

Hungry for HP
I too have an 2007 E550. Very interested in bumping horse power. Willing to replace exhaust, filters, intakes but what about chip or turbo? Is there a recommended chip that will increase the power? Do they really work?

I would recommend getting the E550 tune from OE Tuning. Gives you 414HP from stock 382hp. You can add K&N air filters and remove both resonators with an X pipe to straight pipe to mufflers set up. This will give you even more horsepower gains and OE will give you a custom tune with these two modifications. I have done all of this and can say the results are great for spending under a grand. Hope this helps

Thanks for feedback. Any suggestions on the exhaust? Borla, flowmaster, etc or keep is simple?

We offer a handheld as well that allows you to flash between stock and tuned, and also allows us to send you a new file when you mod the car further (free) so you always have the best and safest on the car at any time!

Just realized you have have a E550 sedan. Not sure how the set up I told you about would sound on your car, or if you even have the two sets of resonators. You can still get the air filters and tune though. But I am not sure about the exhaust for your car.
