New V8 for 2012?

Is E getting the new 4.6L 429hp V8 2011 CL has now? From what I've read in the news, they assumed this engine will migrate to E-class too after a year.

Yes just detuned, hp goes down to just over 400 and torque drops by about 60 but still a 50 lb ft increase. I drove/reviewed the new CL550 that has the new motor and it's under this thread with some other MY 2012 thoughts : https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...my-2012-a.html

In the coupe, with a pair of GT30s and better cooling ... this should be fun!

Was it turbo lag or throttle-lag? What I mean is, on many of the newer Mercedes (C63, C350, etc.) full "pedal-down" does not always equal 100% throttle opening. In other words, you may be mashing the pedal to the floor, but MB might only allow you 75% throttle opening at a given rpm (one of the ways they "de-tune" an engine so you step up and buy the more expensive "sport pack" or whatever).

Probably no way to tell without a data-logger.

I drove the NA 11 E550 cab shortly before which was much more responsive in light throttle applications; again once the turbos on the CL spooled it flew. The CL also starts out in second gear in normal mode, I'm not sure if sport mode changes that as I did not engage it.
