In my opinion the black wheel has gotten old. It is very popular with the asian car crowd (Hondas, Toyotas, Nissans). To me it looks like they are running four emergency spares. If you have really nice wheels in black, you don't really notice them as much as a lighter colored wheel. Check the W212 forum. A lot of the guy's on there have added aftermarket wheels. Sorry...again I am not a big fan of red calipers. I think black with a silver MB logo or MB text would look good. Just my .02 cents!

black on black has run it's course. used to have a black bmw and had thought about going with black rims. after much research, i decided against it. unless you're going with the whole "murdered" theme, which i never was a huge fan, i would go for something with a little contrast. black rims look great on white and light shade cars. what i ended up doing with my black bmw was going custom powdercoat of semi-gloss anthracite. the contrast was just enough to make the wheels stand out, but not be the main focus. just a fyi, black/dark wheels will always look smaller. good luck and post some pics!

thanks 550. the rims will be custom matte black powder coat with a semi gloss finish. they are at the shop and will be ready tomorrow. can't wait to see what they look like. btw, i am more partial to brushed finish, but the wife wants this one so we shall see. i can always pay again to have them taken back down to metal and have them put a different coating on them.

very nice indeed. what kind of springs did you go with? wasn't sure if anything would work with the e550 sport suspension. how come you powdercoated those wheels, don't they come in matte black already? not a fan of chrome anything, so black-ing out the window trim and mouldings would be my only suggestion, other than that, very nice looking car.

calbear,
went with eibachs. had a slight issue that the installer was able to resolve. the drop is perfect IMHO. thinking about tinting the molding all around. it will be dark a la black chrome. these rims dont come in matte black. powder coating allowed for some creativity. plus i got a smoking deal on them. the guy is also selling another set with a mirror face and gunmetal windows on ebay if you are interested.

Here is my 2013 E350 4matic with Silver Wheels
I prefer the traditional look of silver wheels, especially on a black car.
I have also changed the grill to a SLS style and changed to clear front side marker lights.

I’ve been toying with the idea of powder coating these in a gunmetal grey but I’m on the fence. The more I look at them the more I like them the way they are. Mercedes makes this wheel in black with a machined lip but I don’t think they look nearly as good as these do. I don’t think they would fit on a E-class though.

Post resurrected from the grave I see. I like black wheels a lot, but of course it depends on the car and its color. Mine is white so it would look like crap, imo. My truck was bright white with black plastic rims (notta typo) but polished alum centers and it looked sweet, again imo. It also looked great with the whole rim in polished alum but the black was unique and I preferred it.
So what's the deal with powder coating vs paint? I recall, back when that was popular, everything powder coated would fade very quickly in the sun and one way or another they'd get moisture or oil under it and it corrode the metal and separate from it. It was like the opposite of protection. And of course the only repair was to completely remove it, sand blast all the damage and start over. It was always a disaster so I never understood why people did it. Painting is way easier, can even do it yourself at home like I do. The water/oil will not get under it, if you don't want it to, and, super important; it's repairable!. So these days with the latest tech in powder, is there any advantage over paint? And if there is a good reason for using it, can you get clear power coat? Like if you wanted to protect alum or machined alum spots is that possible or is paint still the only option?
