I just bought a 2012 350 e coupe. Every time I start the engine when cold, it will do a very noisy sound for several seconds. It won't repeat until it is cold again. The dealer says its normal with this new engine, but I asked them to cold start other cars with the same engine and none had that sound. Does anybody has had the same complaint???
Inside my car it is very quiet cold or warm - no unusual engine sounds.
Outside the car, the Direct Injection engine is a little noiser than a non-D.I. engine, but I haven't noticed any significant difference in sound level from cold through normal operating temperature.
Also, the car is remarkably drivable from the coldest starts (although our winter has been mild this year), including smooth transmission shifts and acceleration.
I think the fact you are only hearing this noisy sound from your engine, and not from the others you tried, indicates something atypical may be going on with yours that should be further investigated.
Hope you are able to get it resolved.
