De-chrome

Decided to de-chrome the trim down the sides of the car. Could not believe how much dirt had got behind them. Then the surprise,(I bought my car second hand so do not know it's history), and as soon as the trim was removed I saw the line in the lacquer along the length of the door, it has had bodywork repair on the passenger door and they used the trim line as the end point for the paint. AAAArgh! Tried to sand back the edge, but as I am not a bodywork specialist I did not know how far to push it as I was also sanding against the original lacquer layer!!!!! Managed to reduce it a little but being a bit **** I can see it!!!!!

I would like to know how to take mine off as well. The only thing I am worried about is that the paint will have faded a tiny bit around the chrome, ect.

Hi ! It is very easy to remove the trim. Just use a good quality dental floss !!!! The hardest bit is removing some of the glue. You can heat the area as this will help ! this just softens the glue. As for dis-colouring zero!!! the car is to young for this to happen, just use a scratch remover if there are any marks, simple but the car looks so much better without the chrome strips.

Forget dental floss. Use fishing line
