COMAND, USB drives, and playlists

2010 E350 coupe here.

I purchased a cheapie UCI to USB cable from Amazon -- cheaper and faster than the dealership. Plays music from a 16 GB, FAT-formatted USB drive like a champ.

What I did: manually copied over music in playlists in iTunes over to folders with the same name within the file browser. The MP3s appear and function properly, but they are ordered by filename as expected with a raw copy/paste like that -- which is a problem because iTunes will name things using "[track number] [title]" formatting, so all the track 1s are grouped together, track 2s, etc.

What I then tried: I right-click -> exported the actual .m3u playlist files from each playlist in iTunes and stuck it in the respective folders I previously created.

In COMAND, I have two options to play media -- "Folders" or "Playlists." If I select "Playlists," the file names of the playlists appear -- but when I select them, they are empty as expected because the M3U refers to the path of the songs on my laptop, not on the flash drive.

Anyone have any suggestions on how I could copy over playlists in iTunes and preserve the order of the songs as they are on the actual playlists?

Thanks in advance.

Hah, found my old thread. Never did find a good solution to this.

Anyone have any thoughts on how to go about this?

Much appreciated.

The easiest solution is to purchase a used iTouch and live with iTunes as a way of managing your playlists. If you buy a new one (like a Nano) make sure you pick up a 30 pin to Lighting adapter. There are also a bunch of MP3 management utilities that let you manage and even mass-change paths in your M3U playlist. One example is Helium, but it has a steep learning curve.

Which Ipod generation works well with our system?

They are all good. I have an older iTouch 64GB that I haven't seen in months happily living in my glove box! The choice is really about how much music you want to store. Make sure if you have a 30 pin cable in your Benz you need to add the 30pin to Lighting adapter.

I'm using an unused iPhone 4. With the car parked in the garage it connects to my wifi, I can wirelessly sync new songs to it from my iTunes without going back out to the car at all. The feature works great and does not require the car to be on, since command is not used for the wifi sync.
