E350 Storage

Hey guys, I have a 2010 E350 that I am going to be storing for about 3 months while I go back home for the summer. I wanted to know what are the general rules with this car in terms of how many times it needs to be started per month for the battery not to drain?

Thanks!

If you have an available electric outlet, I would suggest hooking up a battery tender (not charger). Mercedes sells one, but I have used one from Harbor Freight on may cars with success and no problems (http://www.harborfreight.com/automat...ger-42292.html)

If there is no electric available, three times per month letting it run for five minutes should be okay. You have to let it run long enough to replace the electric power used in starting it.

I've had my 2005 C230k stored for 3 years while I was overseas. The car was 1 year at the time I stored it. I've never had to keep it on a charger, but disconnected both battery terminals. I would return every 12 months, reconnect the battery, the car would start on every first try. One year I returned from overseas and didnt have enough time to disconnect the battery, had to catch a flight. When I came back 12 months later, the battery was dead. I bought a new battery, and made sure I disconnected every time I put it back in storage.

I would recommend running the car as near empty as possible before you store it or top off the tank and add fuel additives to remove water. I had my car in a non climate controlled storage facility, so I was concerned about condensation building in the tank. I always made sure I used the full tank during my stay... Never had a problem. The car today has just 20,000 miles and runs like a champ.

You should always over inflate the tyres to reduce flat spotting due to not moving. Ctek sell an excellent intelligent charger for cars laid up!!!

Use an electronic trickle charger for the battery.
Add Stabil to a full gasoline tank.
Inflate tires to near maximum pressure.
Invest in a good car cover.

I just stored my E550 for the winter, 4 months, without any problems. Tires did not flat spot and the battery was just fine. Started up without a hitch.

Yes... It was Stabil that I used on a full tank. I didnt over inflate the tires... No flat spots. In fact the original tires were changed last year (C230k 2005 year model).

I've done this without using a charger. Just disconnect the battery, and it will be fine for the few month intervals until you drive it again. Like I said, I've actually stored my car.
