2011 iPod in glove box drains battery?

My wife put a first gen iPod in her 2011 glove box as music source. Few months ago, car won't start. Dealer put in a new battery. Last week, car wont' start then dealer said everything is fine (did not replace battery) and told her radio should be on at all time. The car is designed with it on. The cause was her turning it off prior to parking the car. Is it true?

I was trying to find out what drains the battery. Everything seemed fine except the first gen iPod is always charging in the glove box. Is that normal?

Thanks.

My iTouch lives in the glove box with no issues. It only sees the light of day when I have to reach for my registration to show the police (for speeding) I read somewhere that if you plug it in while the car is running it treats the charging cycle differently than if you plug it in without the car ACC or key in. I'll see if I can reproduce the problem.
