550 Bi-Turbo Performance Numbers: Base vs. Tuned

Greetings,

I was just doing a search and came across these numbers for the 550s with the bi-turbo engine (see link below). How credible are these numbers for the E550, in particular the base (pre-tuned) numbers? I know there have been different threads/posts about this, but please feel free to add your two cents on these results.

=================================
Modifications:
Dyno-Comp Custom ECU Re-Flash
BMC High Flow Air Filters

Bone Stock: 2013 Mercedes E550 BiTurbo

REAL WORLD this is what a 2013 Mercedes E550 puts down for power..

400 (Wheel HP) x 1.27 = 508 HP at the flywheel.
444 (Wheel TQ) x 1.27 = 564 TQ at the flywheel.

These numbers were taken from a stock car and may vary.

HP is now at 434 (at the wheels) which equates out to about 551 HP at the flywheel.
TQ is now at 524 (at the wheels) which is approx 665 TQ at the flywheel.

At the end of the day what does all this mean…

+43 HP increase at the flywheel.
+101 TQ increase at the flywheel.

If these numbers are even close then and to MB!!

Those numbers look incredible but are just too high to be real for me. I would guess their dyno is out of cal and spitting out bogus numbers.

I think your wheel-to-crank calculation is a little generous. I believe most folks are esimating a 15% difference, so it should be closer to 460HP and 510TQ.

BTW, the measured wheel HP and TQ are consistent with RennTech, Kleemann, and other tuners. Most are guestimating real crank horsepower to be between 445 and 465 and wheel torque between 505 and 525. Those differences could be attributable to environmental/equipment differences. In the end, though, it's clear that Mercedes is under-reporting the real power of this car.

By the way, here's the dragtimes estimate on crank horsepower based on my personal track time:

Very interesting... I am liking those numbers! 450hp and 500lb-ft stock?!? Talk about a sleeper.

in my research .. I think I can make an educated guess. I searched E550, CLS550, SL550 and any other tune done to the M278

stock.
380 to 390 RWHP (dyno jet)
420 to 440 RWTQ (dyno jet)

based on recent OE and Renntech tunes, and even other misc tunes for SL550, CLS550

you should see 70RWHP and about 90-100RWTQ with Stage 1

On 91 oct.. 450RWHP and 520RWTQ should be a good starting point

93 oct.. slight higher like the Renntech Tune they market in the their website

and 100 ct.. would not be surprised yo are pushing 480-490 RWHP

With DP's. and Stage 2 tune.. Should be braking 500RWHP on 91oct

Just my $.02 but I could see these numbers being feasible. If you haven't seen the Chris Harris S4 video, check it out below. Seems that FI motors can really benefit just from a tune...

Makes me want to trade for a 2012 E550 with the Bi-Turbo.

E550 (Bi-Turbo) vs. E55 (Supercharged) vs. E63 (6.3 NA)

Here's another way to put the performance of the bi-turbo in perspective:

--------Rear wheels (dyno)----------Crank
E550----390 hp 440 tq--------453 hp 511 tq (14% drive line loss)
E55-----415 hp 469 tq--------488 hp 572 tq (18% drive line loss)
E63-----424 hp 390 tq--------517 hp 476 tq (18% drive line loss)

*All cars are stock, without the PP.

Compared to the older AMG E-Classes, the bi-turbo has near AMG hp/tq numbers.

AMG-lite performance (definitely a difference in braking, handling, exhaust, etc.) at an AMG-lite price.

I'm loving my E550 Cabriolet.....

What's even more amazing is that the E550 hits ~530hp and 610tq for the low, low cost of a $1500 tune. Throw in wheels and tires and you can make an E63 owner cry while pocketing $50k.

BTW, I'm planning to do the Kleemann tune and down-pipes this fall (along with the Quaife LSD). According to Kleeman, these two simple mods yield estimated crank hp of 560 and tq of 630. I'll be dynoing before and after, just to confirm
