Seat handles - Chrome peeling off!
Fitting replacement seat backrest lock
Hi Guys,
Further to this thread, can anyone provide fitting instructions for the driver's seat backrest lock of my 2012 E250 coupé referred to (the number A2079108406)? The chrome covering has sliced my fingers once too often! My nearest MB garage is a 3-hour drive away so if I prefer to try it myself. I managed to get them to post the replacement part. Any help is greatly appreciated - the back of the seat is easily removed by taking out the two screws at the bottom and sliding it down. That's about as far as I have gone.
Kind regards,
Alan

Hey guys ..under warranty?? I just got a 2010 E350 Charcoal Metallic Grey coupe ,beautiful with light colored seating and black accents ,.but that part is peeling terribly Has Anyone gotten this fixed out of warranty and if so...how much??
I received 7 stitches
My arm was sliced open so badly by the peeling chrome that I had to get 7 stitches. Mercedes definitely knows about this problem and has done nothing about it! Apologies in advance for the graphic images but I hope they will prevent another person from experiencing this.
Even if you haven't noticed that chrome peeling i'd suggest everyone inspect it and maybe throw some paint on it before it does start to peel off

Any information on how to replace would be appreciated.
How did you get the handles out of the seat?

Just paint the handle. These are bad pics but i just used a rattle can of plastidip. Peel off the remaining chrome then paint the white plastic underneath (*** make sure the chrome is completely removed even on the back side of the handle.***) . After it dried the matte finish is smooth and looks completely stock. A few months of daily grabbing on the handle to access the back seat and the plastidip holds up great.

My handles are intact, mainly because the 2010 car has 12k miles. Would it make sense to 'wrap' them in something ? Like simulated carbon fiber or the like to mitigate peeling ?
Thanks
Thanks
I have come up the same solution since my family is in this industry. I will try it out and see how it is going
coming back to this thread.. my friend sliced his finger trying to lift up the passenger seat.. needed 4 stitches.. i didnt know it was under warranty.. will be making an appointment soon..

For those with this problem, did you regularly use cleaning products or something on them? mine are ok (car is still quite new), but its obviously better to avoid this happening considering the injuries above!
Chrome covering seat handle
I cut my finger and had to have two stitches. The chrome on the driver's side seat is peeling. I did not realize how sharp it was until I sliced my finger.
Thankfully my car is still under warranty.

Mercedes Peeling Chrome on Seat Lever
The chrome on my driver's side seat lever began to peel and I cut my finger. I took it to Mercedes and they fixed it under warranty while I was having other work done. Now, the passenger side is peeling. I do not use the seat levers very frequently as I am usually a solo driver or just have a passenger in the front seat. This seems to be a problem with Mercedes chroming process. (MB 350 Convertible 2012 with 35,000 miles.)

Does anyone has this problem on the 2014 model too?
I use the handle everyday and I do not want my family members cut the fingers because of this.

Ok, so, all is great that dealers are replacing these under warranty, however, does anyone know how to remove these handles for those who don't have a warranty? I have the seat back access panel removed but can't figure out how to get to the two torx screws to remove the handle assembly. I have spent 4 days searching the internet, buying parts diagrams, supposed videos that would show me on my car...but havent found anything. Very frustrated and would greatly appreciate some direction please. :-) 2012 E550 Conv
