Honest OETuning Review 2011 E550 Coupe

Hello All! This is my first post so I willtry to make it good. I think this post will do you guys good as I am a fellowmotorhead and an engineer by trade. I will keep it as honest and legitimate aspossible!

I bought my first Mercedes Benz (2011 E550coupe) about a month and a half ago. I LOVE it! It has plenty of pep and looksbeautiful! Even though car has plenty of power, being a motorhead, I wantedmore. LOL

I first researched several power chips. Allin all, a power chip is one of the biggest bangs for the buck. I came across severalbrands but the one that stuck out to me was OETuning. From the research I did,it claimed one of the highest horsepower/torque gains of all chips and also wasone of the most economically friendly on the pocket book.

I have to admit, I was skeptical. For thecost and the claims, it just seemed like this company was a little dishonest. Thanks to MBWorld, I was able to read several other reviews and see that mostpeople rant and rave about OETuning. So I decided to take the plunge.

I spoke with Jeremy (AMAZING Guy andEXTREMELY knowledgeable) from OETuning and he was very clear and precise aboutwhat I should expect from a tune like this. After speaking with him, my skepticismstarted to disappear. This guy knows what he’s talking about. After a coupleconversations, I bought the chip with the flash reader.

I installed the software and updated the ECUlast night. I didn’t quite know what to expect. Pushed the engine start buttonand….

Before I go farther, let me tell you, I knowcars. I hear them. Feel them. I am one with them. I know my cars. I love cars.So when I do something like this, I am very in tune with the vehicle.

Anyways… Engine start and the idle came toabout 1500 RPM and climbed on down to about 500 RPM. I sat. I listened. Iobserved. And I noticed. I noticed that the idle seems just a little smoother. The idle was smooth before but every once in awhile the engine would have alittle “skip” almost like a dropped cylinder. This was as no concern since alot of higher performance engines operate this way at idle. But after the tune,no more. It was smooth.

I pulled the car out of the drive and wasvery delicate on the gas. I felt something different but couldn’t put my fingeron it. I continued to drive and I noticed something VERY different that I haven’tseen anyone else post about. The exhaust! This thing completely changed tunes! It sounds mean! The exhaust completely sounds different. It is deeper and more intimidating.HUGE difference. I love it!

I continued to drive the car and the nextthing I noticed was the increase in power on the low end. Let me explain… See,this car is peppy but it always felt like it had a lag or bog at the low end. Ibelieve this is intentionally done by Mercedes to ensure the car acceleratessmoothly from the start. It is a Mercedes after all. But this “bog” is nowgone. The best way I can describe it is that it drives like a normal car. Youpush the gas and it goes. That simple. No more pushing the peddle a littlefarther to get the acceleration you want. It feels ten times better!

I continued to drive and felt a little morepull across the RPM band. Jeremy (from OETuning) told me it takes about 20miles of driving before the chip is completely tuned to the car and calibrated.I was clocking my distance and then something happened… Around mile 2, the carbegan to transform! I opened it up to see what she had. I was easily thrownback and my E550 was screaming! Roaring actually. I hit 60. Then 70. Then 110.And was still pulling as if I had just come off the line. This car iscompletely transformed.

And then it got better. Mile 3… The carstarted opening up some more! The longer I drove it, the peppier it got! Thistune has completely changed the feel and performance of my car. I also likethat it has eased off the torque limiter (so you get the full engine power froma dead stop and all the way through first gear).

The traction control light is now a commonfeature on the car. LOL jk. But I do see it much more. The car has a punch to itthat wants to break the tires loose.

Another thing I can attest for is the gas mileage. The last month and a half, I have been getting 18.2mpg. I reset my gas meterbefore I took the car out the first time. Obviously I have been getting on itand playing around quite a bit more after installing the tune so my gas mileageisn’t what it could be YET. I will keep you guys updated. As of now, since thetune (even with the more aggressive driving I have been doing), I am sitting at20.9mpg. I am shocked. I think it will continue to climb as I start to drivethe car normally.

So… this isn’t the best written article I haveever done by far. LOL. But if you guys have any questions, I will be happy to answerthem. I hope this helps give you guys some insight as this site has helped me agreat deal already. And again, I am not affiliated with OETuning in any way. Iam honest, and will continue to be so.

Thanks guys for the great Forum!

+1 for OE tuning! Never really realized that about the sound since my car has its resonators removed. Probably why my car is so loud now. Great review!
