It's becoming a common feature on vehicles. Ran into the same thing with a new Audi 6 that I rented on vacation. The reason is that governments are requiring higher fuel mileage stats from the manufacturers, Thus, they incorporate this into their vehicles and report the results from the cars with the auto engine stop enabled. I have a new E550 cabrio. I usually hit the ECO button as soon as I start the car to disable. No big deal. However, I have tested the mileage difference with a few tanks of gas, one tank enabled, one disabled. When ECO is active, milease is improved. Not much, maybe one mile per gallon, but hey, over a year, it does add up.
