2013 E-Class A207 Comand Questions

Just got this car and have a couple COMAND questions:

1. What option: Hard Drive, SD Card, USB Stick, Bluetooth, iPOD offers the most functionality when attached to the COMAND unit?

2. When using an iPOD with COMAND, is there was to pause/resume during play? Do any of the other options offer this?

3. How can you tell which COMAND unit you have and what version of the operating system and maps? Are these updates free?
