WTF??? How did these brakes get on my new 550?

From my research generally, while "overheating" is certainly widely attributed to brake rotor "warpage," so are a couple other things. Thus, it's not necessarily the case that these brakes are insufficient for the vehicle. Lug nut over-tightening as well as rotor run-out caused by less than flat mating of the rotor to the hub can contribute to improper and uneven brake pad-to-rotor contact and wear and pad material depositing on the rotor surface. It could be as simple as the factory improperly torquing the lugs or fitting the rotors wrongly, or a defect in the hub mating surface. I'm not saying it is not "heat" related, but when these brakes are changed, the hub needs to be burnished of any corrosion and rust and, while not common, checked for excessive lateral run-out with a dial-indicator when placed onto the hub. If it's not sitting perfectly flat from the time it's all torqued down, then the variances will only exaggerate when material wears unevenly. Again, I'm not saying these brakes are up to par, just that it may be worthwhile to look beyond "heat"- especially for those who seem to have repeated rotor "warpage" issues.

Bulletins released concerning brake disk thickness, vague with little detail (MY, modified part, etc.) worth discussing with service manager. Wear item, or at cost is not mentioned therefore, replacement should be covered by factory warranty beyond the normal 1 year/12000 mile coverage.

I had a minor, but noticeable shudder from new on my '14 E550 Cab. I complained, but service said the brakes were still too new. After a year and 5,000 miles, they replaced them under warranty. Big difference, its smooth now. Hopefully they made some changes so they do not warp.

E550 Cab & Coupe Brakes:
I've been following this dicussion re: the size of the current Coupe and Cab's front Rotor's, it seems like alittle false advertizing on Mercedes part.
I'm so clad I bought my 2014 E550 Cab when I did with the Awesome 4.7 bi-turbo V8 & the brillantly sized front Dinner Plates!!!
I think I'd want my money back, or start looking for a used BMW 6Series Cab.
On a slightly different note; I'm sure most of you Fine Folk who own these Cab's and Coupe's are probably like me, and don't enjoy how quickly our front brake's black'n the wheels, well after a lot of research over this past year I've found a solution.
After contacting most of the aftermarket Companies who manufacture pads that don't dust as much, but still preform well, I've found a Cross over Brand and model range that works on our unique front Calipers, yes I mean uique as they are pretty much only used on W211, W212 and the A&C207 series Mercedes in question.
I had no problem with the Rear brakes, as they are used on quite a few different Mercedes models so finding low dusting pads was easy, I've gone with Akebono Euro (Ultra Premium) as they work well and give off very little Dust.
The Brand that has vertually identical front Caliper's is the (Audi A7 and A6 VARIANTS). I'm now running the Akebono Euro's and have done so for about 300 mile's with Awesome results, my front wheels are staying clean or though I'm not a heavy brake peddle user.
When I received the pads and inspected them I noticed a slight difference in the the base plate of the pad mounting for the brake sensors, this was so simple to solve I was able to still use the original Mercedes sensors that came with our Vehicle's.
I have taken a few photos of my brake change if any one is intrested; one final note I do my own work as it's a hobby and secondly if you start charging pads that aren't factory then you can't expect the Auto Manufacture to warrant the front brake assembly, but changing pads fairly straight forward anyway.

I'm definitely interested in going this route. Please post pics (suggest starting a new thread) and the process (Akebono part numbers, mod for brake sensors, etc.) as I'm sure there are many on this forum that would be interested as well. Thank you!

Netienne, Those are the "NEW" larger size calipers and rotors for the '16 CLS550 which are indeed bigger/better than what are on the '15/'16 CLS400 and the '15/'16 E550 Cab/Coupe. These are what are replacing the larger style of the '13/'14 CLS550 and E550 Cab/coupe prone to warping. Congrats on that awesome ride!

Jeffy,
Do you know of any MB plans intended to offer existing owners of MY 15 and 16 the option to swap out their existing brake setup for these in the near future? Seems MB has realized what they put on MY 15 and 16 E550 models isn't quite up to snuff.

I guess I'm going to necro bump this thread, however my CLS400 came with these smaller calipers [pad/rotor] setup.
For standard driving, they work fine. However at speeds greater than 100+ mph, these are absolutely not enough.
There's roughly a 100lb difference between the 400 and 550, so a 550 with this setup would be even a little worse.
With the weight and power even with the 400, it's not very good. With a tuned vehicle, you're asking for trouble.
My W204 sport non-amg has really well balanced brakes and can stop fantastic. It is really noticeable that this brake setup to vehicle ratio is not.
As a result, I'm upgrading mine to the 550 style. A 63 upgrade would be best; but the price difference is massive.
