Key fob problem.

Hello Guys,

My E350 coupe with Keyless-go came with 2 key fobs, one of them is not working at all except that when pressing the start button, or any of the buttons in the fob itself, the lid in the fob lights up.

The mechanical key works thou so the key belongs to the car.

When having both keys in the car, the car will not start, it seems that the malfunctioning key interferes with the good one.

Is there a reset\programming method I can do it myself or you think that the key should be replaced?

Thanks in advance for you advice.

Did you try replacing the battery? It's a 2025 lithium coin battery.

Did the FOB you're having a problem with ever work properly? If not and you've already put a new, good battery in it, then take the FOB back to the dealership you bought the car from.

Actually I can never know cz I bought a used car and the former owner is not here anymore.
But if by looking at the key I think that it used to work because there are those scratches that tells u it has been used for a while.

OK. So you bought the car from its previous owner and NOT a dealership correct?

If you had bought it from a dealership and they made a written commitment to deliver the car to you with two working key FOBs you could have simply went back to them for a replacement. Unfortunately, since you bought the car private party and the previous owner is gone, you're out of luck. MB charges around $400 for a new FOB, if you want one. I seriously doubt they will try to fix or re-program your defective one.

By the way, when I was asking about whether the FOB had ever worked, I meant whether it had ever functioned properly for you. In the future, if you buy a used car, always check that ALL key FOBs are fully functional before handing over your money. Thankfully the car itself works well and this is your only issue. Best of luck to you and enjoy the vehicle.

Thank you for your kind reply
yes you are absolutely right, they won't program it; I called and they said u'll have to order a new one.
When I bought the car I thought the spare fob only needed battery replacement. I should have tested it before.
Anw according to you there's nothing I can do myself such as resetting the fob and pair it again. (I used to do this with my old mazda protege)
So it's either I live with 1 fob or buy a new one.

Thanks
