Got a SERIOUS problem. p001985 error code

This is for my 2013 E350 Coupe. Last week the oil filter gave out, oil everywhere. Fine, take it in to an indy- he says error codes say to replace the cam magnets. Fine, replace both I say. At the time, there was a "click, click click" sound towards the back of the engine (closest to the windshield). Now there's PROBLEMS- car takes 5 seconds to start- sometimes doesn't. Car's acceleration is crap in 1st, 2nd gear. Check engine light still on- the error P001985 says it's "implausible signal relative to position of the crankshaft." Is it something simple like replacing crank sensor or something major like a timing belt issue? I've replaced one in a 2005 c230. Not sure what to do here but mechanic said there's no outstanding recalls on this.

P001985 = position of the exhaust camshaft cylinder bank 2, lower driver side looking into engine bay. Note bank 1 passenger side, bank 2 driver side; intake solenoid upper, exhaust lower If any solenoid is found to be old part # I suggest replacing all four to current # see attachment. Have independent revisit, first step check harness to solenoids then move on from there.

Basically the Indy threw his hands up and said to go to Mercedes and that he thinks it needs a new camshaft. He replaced the 4 cam magnets then all this **** happened where the car takes a while to start and drives like *****.

Unfortunately, you have no choice but to take independent’s advice. Expensive second opinion but if it is found to be independent’s error …well you know the rest. Also, reference attached bulletins to dealer. Jumping ahead if 054702 is applicable (engine # within affected range), request MB goodwill repair since parts were modified to correct defective parts installed at production.

Ok, wait. I don't. My instinct is to punch the Indy out. What other option do I have to hold him to fixing HIS monumental fukup!??
