Maybe this will finally put some of the doubters opinions to rest. Also ... might this be enough to necessitate a dedicated C238 forum at last?????

E250 AMG Sport Convertible
I'd have been hoping for something more imposing from the AMG variant. Looks as bland as the standard models and could just be another Volkswagen. Opportunity missed unfortunately.

Is your E250 an A207 or A238?

Not sure of the relevance but its an A207. Bought the pre-facelift as I didn't like the look of the facelift and was contemplating getting the A238 next year (before they brought it out). Haven't been overly bowled over by the A207, its just a bit boring. Now the E class just looks like a C class which looks like an S class., which just looks like a Volkswagen Passat CC.

Its just a personal opinion, I find the new models very dull looking all all the same as the competition. Interior is better than the late A207's but still very sterile and boring.

I have no doubt the engine will be great fun to drive though. They just missed an opportunity to make the AMG version stand out from the crowd.

Oh I agree on the missed AMG opportunity. I appreciate your opinion, I asked because I've gone back and forth myself, landing on getting a C238. My previous car was a 2015 E350 sedan/saloon. The sedans all look alike, which Mercedes has done, and done well in the past. The power is fun though!

2019 AMG CLS53
I think it looks great - a suitable and long needed replacement for the departed V8. I am planning on getting the CLS 53 but this is a close second choice

4MaticCoupe - thanks for posting. The specs on the new Inline 6 e53 look great. I sense a purchase in 2 years ...

^ Looks like I got my thread in just before the Detroit reveal! I'm probably with you as far as the wait is concerned ... one year to work out the new model problems (even though the engine and interior are basically not new, just newly wrapped) ... one year to wait for the availability of a Rubellite coupe wearing the 20" multispokes which - for some unknown reason - Daimler won't commit to for our market (already options on the U.K. and Dubai configurators) ... and unfortunately the possibility of yet another year to work out any issues with that which makes the E53 an E53 ... the new engine.

Agree - but don't give up on considering the Cabriolet ... it is a fabulous vehicle. Don't know what part of the country you are in but with the AirCap and AirScarf systems, we ride in 50 degree weather with no issues at all.

Hey 4MaticCoupe - help me understand .. I was reading the Car and Driver summary as well as the MB Presser - is the newe43 AMG engine rated at 429 hp and 384 ft-lbs / and the EQ System can boost that by +21 hp and 184 ft-lbs .... for a momentary rating of 450 hp and 568 ft-lbs ??
IF SO, I am ALL IN
Let me know your understanding of the specs,
thanks

^ I can see the wording is/can be somewhat confusing/misleading. Citing the MB press release on the E53 engine:
"The 6‑cylinder in-line engine generates 320 kW (435 hp) and delivers maximum torque of 520 Nm. Its EQ Boost starter-alternator momentarily provides an additional 16 kW of output plus 250 Nm of torque and furthermore feeds the 48 V on-board electrical system."

Going back to a mid-April article regarding this new engine (when the AMG variant had changed from the E43 to the E50), it states:
"... which Mercedes calls the M 256. In the upcoming AMG E50 4Matic, the mill will reportedly produce 429 horsepower (320 kilowatts) and 391 pound-feet (530 Newton-meters). In addition, the Integrated Starter Generator will offer a temporary hybrid boost of 20 hp (15 kW) and 162 lb-ft (220 Nm).

So ... I think your understanding is spot on. You just have to keep in mind the pertinent words from the above two descriptions ... momentarily and temporary.

Have followed developments closely and was waiting for the electrically enhanced M256 in the E-Coupe ..... quite likely my next car. Reviews and road tests can't come soon enough.

Early adopter, teething problems and all - my bet is that the E53 will be a winner right out of the gate. Yeah - I know ....

Would guess that the dealer ordering guide shows up in North America early August ????

Exactly, but how does it compare to the S560 cabriolet? I would like to pick up a big drop-top this fall, but so far there is no information on US versions of either.
