Panoramic sunroof does not open

Hi All-

I got a problem with my 2011 E-Class coupe's pano sun roof. The sunshade curtain (aka roller sunblind) closes only about 1/5 of it is way and stops. There are no grinding or squeaking sounds, it just stops and does not move any further towards the front. I can move it back and forth freely with a motor. The moon roof itself is stuck in closed position and only makes clicking sounds when i try to tilt or open it. I pulled the fuse out trying to reset it for like 10 minutes, but no luck. I read a lot of posts here related to liner issues and shade being stuck and/or shredded, but in my case it seems to be something else. If the sunshade moves (even 1/5) of its way, I guess it means that motor is still good, so why it does not open the roof even when the shade is all the way back? Thank you in advance for your replies.

Problems with these sunroofs can be tricky to diagnose and to repair. I suggest you take it to an authorized dealer for resolution. Good luck.

I had the following problem with mine:
Having had the blind all way to the front
during the cold season, I wanted to open the pano roof
and so pressed the button to have the blind rolled all the way back.
It did not make it, and stopped about one inch from its rear end position.

Then, after a few attempts to bring it forwards, it got stuck
and eventually it was torned. I think the root cause was that
having the spring tensioned during the winter exhaused it.

Once stuck, the roof will not open since it does not detect
the roller "end position" signal.

It all ended with having to replace the roller blind.
The blind itself is not that expenceive, but the work
involved in replacing it takes about one day. The a- and c-pillars
will have to come down. The rear seats also as well as the rear pannelling.
The inner roof which is a metal structure also had to be taken down
which involves two persons.

Then, I needed to reset and check the rest of the mechanism.
Luckily, no other part was bad.

Thank you, Uky, I am afraid my situation could be very similar to yours.. It really looks like the sunroof is not detecting the sun blind to be in the fully open position, so it does not open.. My guess is the sunroof thinks the blind is fully closed even though in reality it is only 1/5 way closed.. I was going to look into hall position sensor or anything else which indicated the blind's fully open position.. I am surprised of how little or really no information exists on this topic throughout the internet.. Will start digging into it more once the weather becomes little warmer here in the Northeast of the US..
