Broken Trunk Lid Spring Part? Pictures

Hi. Don’t know what’s going on with my trunk area, but this is the second problem in a week. Today I opened the trunk to a loud popping noise. Seems that a little part of the area around the spring on the passenger side is broken. Not sure what it does but the one on the other side doesn’t move, and this one does. Looks like part of the spring sits in this thing like a cradle, but I don’t know why.

Below I tried to take a set of pictures “zooming in” on the part and then showing it top and bottom, with the bottom clearly looking broken. Anyone know what this is or how hard it is to replace?

thanks!

Apparently this piece is part of the trunk torsion spring itself. Assuming passenger = right, looks like part no is A2077580600. Are they all black or are they body-colored?

On my 2011 there are four springs, two per side. One is the torsion spring and one is a plunger spring. The plunger Spring are prone to breaking and MB doesn’t sell the replacement part anymore.

I have seen a few pics on google of the part number I listed and they included that piece. But I think they are recycled/used so who knows?
