2013 Custom plans for 2013 E550 cold air intake

So these are a couple of drawings I came up with for a plan for a cold air intake. Pretty crazy plans, but both work. I prefer the second plan, personally. But I'd love to hear comments on potential problems with these.
Note: In the first plan, the air filter box will be removed

Just do it. Post the BEFORE and AFTER dyno results with your actual DIY photos/video.

Frankly, it looks like a waste of time to me-- you're still using the same cold air inlets. Perhaps your results, when posted, will prove the design engineers at Daimler got it wrong. Personally, if I wanted to lower the temperature of the air going into the intake manifold plenum, I'd turn my attention to the intercooler-- not the air filter.

It's been many years since I installed a CAI; and that was on a naturally aspirated Acura V6. It made no discernible difference in actual performance, but it sure did sound nice under hard acceleration. Gains from modified cold air intakes are best measured with a Sound Power Meter.

Factory airboxes are pretty good on just about any car nowadays. You won't find many manufacturers leaving power and efficiency on the table.

On the m278 and similar, the airbox spacers seem like the most logical thing to do.

I agree, be about it, don't talk about it. Show us the Dyno slips with correction factors.

Like mine, your existing air intake draws the air from outside, not from the engine compartment. You really won't see any additional performance with mod. Years ago I had a Acura CLs, I had a similar setup like Rick's description. It sounded great when I punch it, maybe some increase in hp.
