Brought my wife’s E550 to the dealer who found 3 of the 8 injectors had sprayed oil (apparently they are oil cooled according to the service writer) which caused a multitude of problems including fouled plugs and the 2 upstream O2 sensors to fail. Estimate from Mercedes was 5300. Just bought this car 3 months ago and can’t help to think that someone fixed this issue and promptly dumped it.
My question is has anyone else experienced similar issues with this motor (M278 engine?) as all of the research said it was an otherwise “bulletproof motor” and “one of the best engines ever made”.
My other question is if I should keep it as the service writer says there is no guarantee it won’t happen again. Service records show proper maintenance done all at the dealer and the car fax doesn’t show a prior repair on this issue where I have pulled other car fax reports on other vehicles when we were shopping and it listed some major repairs.
Thanks in advance.
