E350 holding onto gears longer

Ive noticed that my E350 cab sometimes holds onto the gears longer and sometimes won change at all (stays in 5th when it should go into 6th or 7th) it will change manually not not in auto. also when its like this there is an increased drone from the exhaust heard in the car.

Its always when the car is up to temp, sometimes when I've been driving enthusiastically. something tells me it may be temperature related somwhere, but no idea where

The transmission "learns" driving habits right? Can't you reset the transmission to default shift points by holding down the accelerator pedal to the floor? Also, are you in E or S on the mode?

So maybe a transmission service? Maybe a dirty filter/fluid?

To carry the transmission adaption first of all Mae sure the car is at working temperature.

step 1, sit in the car, turn on the ignition so dashboard lights up (do not start the car)
step 2, press and hold the gas pedal to the floor for a minimum of 10 seconds
step3, switch off the ignition, remove foot from gas pedal, do not remove the key
step 4, wait for minimum of 2 minutes, do not open door or leave the car.

Step 5, go for a 15 minute drive at your typical driving pace/manner, make sure you vary accelerations and braking etc, avoid driving at a constant speed. the transmission will then adapt to your driving manner.

Step 6, drive home and make cup of tea.
