Rear View Camera Issue

A couple of weeks ago I noticed my rear view camera did not work a couple of mornings when I started the car. Later in the day it started working. Last week the rear view camera stopped working entirely. No 'check your surroundings', just a black screen. I originally thought is was the camera and I installed a used OEM camera. I was told it worked, but I it is not working for me. Again, no 'check your surroundings', just a black screen. Would another OEM camera need to be programmed? Is there a setting in the engineering mode I should check? Does this sound like a rear view camera module? Thanks!

This may sound like a stupid question, but is the COMAND screen turned on? If the screen is not on, the camera view will not be displayed when you put the car in reverse; you'll still get just a black screen.

Not stupid. The nav is working until I put the car in reverse and then the screen goes blank. I can see something happening when it should be switching to the rear view camera. It looks like there is some sort of signal, just a black screen.

Ask the dealer to diagnose it for you. They will usually do this free of charge hoping to get the business. I imagine they will just plug into the diagnostic port and have the answer immediately. Electronics are never cheap on a Benz. Good luck with the fix.
