About to take delivery of a pristine 2014 E550 cabrio in Mars Red. The current factory top is absolutely perfect...it's just black...and my restless 'design eye' thinks a top in red or brown would better suit the car (or at least my 'design eye'). Three questions:
Has anyone sourced a top from eBay or other non-MB parts counter?
Advice on waiting to find a complete roof assembly with rear window & all mechanicals vs. just getting the cloth top?
Is replacing a perfect, factory-installed roof just a bad idea?
I appreciate this forum and look forward to joining the conversations.

Best regards and thank you.
generally top replacement is an insurance issue. I can’t imagine putting on a non MB shop.
Don’t know about dyeing something like that. That could be expensive. Think about if dyeing is possible.
Yes.

My honest opinion is why mess with it? Being a soft top the day WILL come when it needs replacement. I would just wait until then. Also, I would go OEM and use a factory top.
Thank you to both of you for the responses / advice on the changing the roof color...or rather, to truly 'leave it alone'.
I guess the right mindset is that this car SHOULD spend most days with the roof neatly hidden from view; it's just darn Illinois winter never seems to end.
...and a photo of late afternoon sun on my new Mars Red machine.
