Backup camera failure

I just had an airbag replaced as part of a safety recall. I immediately noticed that the backup camera didn't work. After analysis, the service manager told me that the control unit couldn't get the camera to work. They didn't have a camera in stock and would need to put one in before they could determine if it was the camera and / or the control unit.

I said it was VERY coincidental that the camera worked when I backed out of my garage to go to the dealer for the air bag recall replacement and that when I went to leave the dealership after replacement, it no longer worked.

They claim that the airbag replacement had no connection to the camera failure since the air bag replacement was done via the glove box.

I've done a lot of searching on the Internet but can't find anything that matches this situation. I wondered if they blew a fuse.

Any opinion about this?

Thanks.

My camera just stopped working as well though I haven't gotten the airbag done yet. Just got the notification letter a few days ago. Is the replacement fairly quick? Would prefer to just wait while it gets done.

They gave me a loaner. I believe it took 2 to 3 hours.

Just curious, how many miles on your car? My 2014 E350 Cabriolet has 25,400 and I purchased it new in Nov 2013.

I don't know if it was related or not, but I had a camera stop working a couple of months ago. I was able to buy a used camera off ebay and put it in myself. The camera did not need to be coded, just plug and play.
