Weird Squeaking When It's Cold?

I was in my 2011 E550 today in sub-freezing weather (like 20 F), and I noticed some weird things...
After a few minutes of driving I turned on sport mode to accelerate as I pulled out onto the main street, and while accelerating there was this strange and jarring high-pitched sound.
It happened again the next time I accelerated quickly.
After like 10 or 15 min of driving though it seemed to stop making the weird sound.
So I'm just wondering if anyone has an idea of what is going on there when that sound happens.
Is it bad for the car? Should I try to avoid doing it? Should I generally let the engine warm up for a while before ripping it when it's cold?
Also, when I was putting the top up and down it seemed a bit more jerky and squeaky... will I mess up the soft top by using it when it's that cold or should that not matter?
Thanks!
