I am fairly new to owning a Mercedes and I would like to know if its possible to retro fit a guage cluster from a 2017-2018 model to a 2016 model.

I can't say with certainty, but I very much doubt it. The 2016 was built on a completely different platform from the later models and I'm pretty confident that everything about the dashboard is also completely different.
