Footbrake not releasing

2015 A207 - if I put the footbrake on slightly and pull the release lever the brake comes off. However, if it is on harder, such that it will hold the car, when I pull the release lever I have to use my foot to pull the footbrake off and need to use a fair bit of force. Anyone any idea as to what may be wrong and needs fixing?

May want to use some white lithium spray instead of WD-40. I would last a good bit longer. Thanks for posting
