I am having an issue with the cooling return lines on my engine. It seems that both of the lines have snapped, I believe they run to the turbocharger? They are a hybrid between plastic and metal. Are there any makers of a solid metal line (Aftermarket) that anyone knows of? And does anyone know how to remove them??? Thank You! These are the 2 cooling lines
This is a common issue with the M278 engine that some of the coolant lines were made of plastic instead of rubber or metal. They get brittle due to cold and hot temperature changes over time.
Lines 150, 90, and 80 are made of plastic instead of rubber or metal. They break over time.
I had to have this repair on my vehicle last year and recommend to do the turbo coolant lines and water pump/thermostat/serpentine belt replacement at same time.
Here is a video of same engine on another Mercedes being repair for same issue. Only one turbo coolant line being replaced. On mine my mechanic did all three since they all were brittle.
