Will this apple car play work
Looking to get this for my 2013 e350 convertible Apple CarPlay

Can't comment on GTA Carkit, but pricewise, seems to be on the higher end. It's nice that it uses the internal mic as opposed to an external mic and seems to be well-integrated.
On my 2015 E400 Cab, I've had a wireless CarPlay/Android Auto device from JoyeAuto for ~ 5 years now, no complaints other than the external mic. No issues with firmware or iOS updates.
There are multiple vendors for these 3rd party boxes, so it's important to do your research. Check out the audio forum here or on other sites.
