Strange part(?) found in the engine room

Hi, I recently purchased a used E550 and found this small part in the engine room. To me this does not belong to the engine, but borrowing your experience if this is a part of the engine. Flexible and rubber-like material. Any idea?

Could be a plug instead of a cap.
note the ridge on one side of the tab.

Wow I think that you are right. Size looks the same as the node of car battery. Thank you so much!

the inner diameter looks the same as that of battery node. The material is rubber-like.
