E550 Question
Not sure if this is the correct spot for this if not mods please move to correct thread. So I have a 2017 E550 coupe with the 4.7 twin turbo v8 rated at 409hp I believe. The same year S550 with the same 4.7 twin turbo V8 is rated at 450HP. Sooo, my question is what's different on the S550's engine.

My guess is it's only a different tune. The reported power for that eng is more like 440, but MB claims ~406 which I assume is to push more people to buy an S class. Tiz all about $ and quarterly statements. If S really does make an extra 10 hp then it's just a fraction of a psi more boost.
If you want the 450, or 550, or more, it's still just tuning, no parts required.

Correct, just ECU tune.
I have a ‘14 E550 coupe. It’s a beast after ECU tune upgrade…however I did eventually kill the turbo(s). When I replace them, I may opt for a different/better tune that does not push boost level too much…maybe haha

The M278 Engine in the E-Class Coupe or Sedan is identical to the ones in the S, SL, GLS, G, and other MB of the same era. If it's the 4.7L Twin Turbo we all share same engine and transmission. The body and suspension are different but the heart and soul are all the same MB. With a tune the E will unleash more power and often when the stock is tested it comes out at same HP as S class. E-Class coupe is probably lightest chassis they put a M278 in other than the SL.
