2013 E350 4Matic Coupe front suspension
Daughter hit a pothole that cracked the AMG wheel. Tire store replaced tire and wheel but recommended alignment. Dealer reports the left front strut and steering knuckle are bent, preventing proper alignment. Estimate to replace those two components left side only is over $4k (?!?). Looks like aftermarket parts are way cheaper. Bilstein B4 for the strut and something called "A Premium" for the knuckle. Pretty sure the Bilsteins will be a great fit. Anybody try this "A Premium" line for suspension components like that steering knuckle? It's just a hunk of metal...

A car that age and out of warranty has no reason to be at the dealer. Find a good independent shop and get a second quote for much less. At that price you have to after market and get more sportiness if that is your goal. I have done suspension work before and never spent $4,000. FCP Euro has parts! Get another quote and not from another dealer. Does the car drive any different?

In my town at least "respected indy's" now charge pretty much what the dealer charges. Never more than 10-20% cheaper, and I get 10% off at the dealer for being a MBCA member. I own 5 MB's. The only savings I get is to wrench them myself. Which I do when it doesn't involve life or limb like a critical suspension component.

Pothole damage is almost always much worse than it appears. Years ago, I had an E class sedan with AMG rims that hit a pothole at a relatively slow speed, but the one rim was cracked and there was a lot of front suspension damage. Thankfully, insurance covered it, but ISTR, it was well over 3k.

When I did all four corners of my suspension replacing shocks/struts, control arms, sway bar link, etc it didn’t come out to more than 4K. For one corner it shouldn’t be more than 1.5K, parts shouldn’t be more than 700 IMHO.
I recommend calling each of the 3 places and they will give you quotes on the parts. Collect them at the price you’re satisfied with and continue to look for honest Indy shops. If you are in Chicago area I would be happy to recommend my mechanic. He drives same era diesel GLS and knows our cars well.
