Fixed Hydraulic Hose leak - 2011 E550 Cab
I finally fixed the leak in the hydraulic hose in my roof!
It was a fairly involved problem to solve as the leak was sufficiently bad that the roof would not open without spewing hydraulic fluid everywhere, and then eventually wouldn't open at all beyond unlocking the fasteners at the windshield. I was able to use some tape, some hemostats, and other contraptions to get it temporarily sealed to get the roof into a position that allowed me access to the broken section.
I bought 2 bottles of replacement fluid and a syringe to keep the tank topped up while I managed to get the roof open and splice in the couplers and section new line.
You can see in the photo that I had to remove the section of the hose that was damaged, and give sufficient new hose line so that the bend/fold would still be at a hose section and not at a coupler.
There are a bunch of resources out there to make this fix a workable alternative to having to pay thousands for a shop repair.
Big shout out to the guys at Cabriolet Hydraulics in FL who were extremely prompt at getting items shipped out (including a replacement nut for a coupler when one of them mysteriously disappeared onto my gravel driveway while I was battling the onslaught of fluid leakage)...
I'm happy to chat with anyone experiencing a similar leak, and share my lessons learned etc.
