Ventilated seat timer

The fan in the ventilated diver's seat in my car turns off intermittently, though the indicator light on the button remains lit. The dealer says this is normal operation, and that there is a timer that turns the fan off after a certain amount of time. The dealer was unable to tell me the amount of time the fan stayed on, nor was he able to explain why the light remains lit despite the fan not being on.

There is no reference in the owners manual to a timer on the fan for the ventilated seats. The owners manual does indicate the heated seats are on a timer and turn off, but when that happens, the indicator light goes off.

Any insight is appreciated.

I know the heated seats reduce intensity over time. They start at three bars, then two, then one. I’ve never noticed that with the ventilated seats, but I have noticed in my old C400 that the ventilated seat fan slows when the car is not in motion, possibly just to reduce noise, and then speeds up again while driving. I haven’t really used the ventilated seats in the E53 Coupe much yet.

Update - I went for a ride this evening and tested the ventilated seats. With all three blue lights lit, the fan comes on at full speed for a few minutes whether you stop or not. After a few minutes of ventilation the fan stops, or slows enough not to be heard, when you come to a stop. The three blue lights stay lit. I remember reading that in my C400 the fan was designed to do this to reduce cabin noise, however I can’t find any mention of it in the current E Coupe manual.

Hi I have a 2018 E400 Coupe and it works the same way on my car. I think that´s the normal operation, but I agree, I couldn´t find an wxplanations anywhere.

Thanks so much! That's exactly the information I was looking for.

From this, it looks like the "fan speed settings can be adjusted using the diagnosis tester." And the "timer control of the three levels can be adjusted using the
diagnosis tester." So can I have them adjust it to have the seat ventilation stay on whenever the button is pressed, and not turn down/off simply because I slow down or after 8 minutes?

Will my dealership be able to do that? It makes no sense for the ventilated seats to turn down (effectively off) when you're stuck in stop and go traffic where the ventilated seats would be most helpful, nor does it make sense to have to turn it back on every 8 minutes. I can possibly understand that operation in a non-convertible, but not in a convertible.

Thanks again!

Interesting, thanks. But why don’t the blue lights change as the timer mode reduces output? That’s what happens with the heated seat - it starts at 3 red lights, then drops to 2, 1, and then 0. The vented seat doesn’t appear to do that, or is it just my car?

2021 E 450 Coupe
I have a 2021, E450 coupe. I thought for sure I had a problem with my drivers side fan; I left the house and turned it on (3 blue lights) I remember it working on the way to the office, but as I parked I noticed I didn't feel or hear anything (still 3 blue lights), I tried turning on my passenger side and it came to life and blew air no problem, so there must be something programmed in the car they simply haven't disclosed, my car behaved like yours verbatim!
