Parking Assistance Fail
Curb Rash Using Parking Assistance
Parking Assistance apparently does not like end parking spaces, i.e., white stripe on one side and curb on the other. Was demonstrating this feature to passengers (by request) yesterday in a parking lot: (1) display notified me of available sparking space, which happened to be an end space, (2) selected, and followed directions to put car into reverse, (3) car took over - executing a back-up and then head-in maneuver, (4) during the maneuver, heard the horrible sound of front right wheel scraping the curb. Got out to inspect, and sure enough about one-third of the wheel was scraped.
Had previously used the Parking Assistance feature just for parallel parking, which it is very good at. Had tested the parking lot scenario once before, just out of curiosity. Yesterday's experience left me a little less secure about autonomous driving.
