Illuminated star.

Hate to admit this, but I've bought Chinese-made illuminated stars (for my fine German automobiles) off eBay and Amazon for $50-60 and they've worked fine. Even stars that look the same have slightly different diameters or connection points, though (e.g., although the diameters were the same, I couldn't transfer the one from my former 2015 C Class sedan to my 2019 E Class coupe because the mounting tabs were different).
The star is very easy to install: twist the old one counterclockwise and replace it with the new one. After you connect the wires to the plug, screw the black wire into the grounding point (or any other secure metal part of the car), and run the red wire through the engine compartment. Drill a small access hole in the plastic container for the fuse block near the firewall, insert the red wire through a rubber grommet and connect it to the fuse block. The blocks are different for various cars, but you can Google to find the best connection point on your C207 E Class.
Quick and easy: it took me about 30 minutes for the C Class and 15 for the E Class after I became more comfortable with the process. Even better, I saved $500 vs. what my friendly M-B dealer would have charged. Hope this helps.
