Boot stopped opening

Hi all,

My boot has stopped opening. Doesn’t open from the badge manually, the key, or the button inside.

I replaced the reverse camera a few months back and all has been fine. I was in it yesterday morning then come yesterday afternoon and this morning it won’t open.

I can hear an electrical sound or attempt to open, is this more than likely a fuse? If so I presume it’s going to be a fuse in the boot?

Where is the emergency boot release located and how do I get to it?

UK spec car.

Thanks

check the valet switch in the glove box. It may have accidently been engaged.

Checked in the glove box but I don’t have any switches or buttons - not sure it’s a UK spec thing!

I climbed into the boot through a thankfully open rear sea. Managed to pull back some trip and the cable which looks like it goes into the locking mechanism seems fine. As said it was all working but now just doesn't seem to want too. it's all very strange. Only fuse I found related to boot was a 5amp fuse which looks fully intact. I can't believe there is no manual release utter madness. If I hold the button on the key fob whilst in the boot I can hear what sounds like a rleay for a few seconds then that's it. If I lock/unlock the car whilst in the boot I cant seem to hear anything in the boot move or be activated. Like it locked itself and can't unlock

f435 (40A, control unit) @ rear SAM - lock, motor, drive, closing bracket need to be checked. If you want associated part #s provide VIN.

I did check F435 as it was a hefty size fuse and it looked OK. Might change it just to be on the safe side. Is the tail on part 140 a cable to manually pull or is it an electric cable? I can undo bolt 130 probs from inside but not sure that will help. Just easier to mess with back of badge with boot open. I did change it for like for like part number and it was fine. Changed it as the spring wasnt springing back once it had been opened! Manually trying to open from the outside also makes no noises or attempts

Just changed the fuse again and nothing. I have a feeling this is going to need drastic measures!

Physically screwed then by the looks of it. Done a scan on the car and no faults showing up. Looks like I now have no boot or a very expensive trip to Mercedes!!

So I have been crawling around the boot again all day yesterday. I have no button as per the picture though it is hard to make out. Only thing I can think of is it maybe behind the warning triangle? I have nothing else otherwise. And in the UK cars doesn't look like I have that switch either for the separate boot locking. This is a nightmare haha!

Hours of crawling again and cannot locate that button at all. Going to say UK spec doesn't have this. Car has started doing a weird thing where when the front sensors go off I can hear the rear camera open up, but not show on screen. NEver used to do this. Unsure what the hell is going on but very, very annoying not having an emergency boot release

Just for future reference, there is no real button like the diagram above. I had to pull forward and half off the plastic covers on the closed boot lid whilst led on the boot floor. Then you see a little pull table on the lock itself, pulling this releases the boot.

You can make it out on the top right of the above.

Anyway taken everything apart, have check all electrical connectors, and fuses, and all seems fine. Weird one

I have exactly the same issue and its the most frustrating fault i have ever seen. Did you work out what the problem was in the end or did you take it to a dealer?

Hi sorry, sold the Merc so not been on in a while. I replaced the handle twice and still no look, sold the car listed with the fault. Not sure what more it could have been! I did get second hand handles but fully same PN's on them, My next port of call would be the cabling from the handle to the main electrics

Maybe the wires are broken just like the problem on previous gen e-class.

Yeah I'm from central europe and I have the same problem for months now with the coupe. The emergency release is behind a very narrow slot, which you need to access with a tool.
I already changed a bad fuse and the electric lock for the trunk, still does not work. I will be checking any other fuse in the trunk and soon the wiring if the fault still occurs.

Old topic but since there were no solutions offered I”ll share my experiences.
I”ll bet it is caused by broken wire as it was in my case.
On my C238 trunk didn’t open or close. At first the trunk opened normally but wouldn't close using the trunk lid button. Without thinking about the outcome (stupid me) I closed the trunk by hand, only to find out that it didn’t open anymore
After searching the forum I found this video and crawled into the trunk through the back seat. Inside the trunk I unfastened the 4 clips on the plastic trim at the trunk lid. After 15 minutes of searching I finally found the small clip to open the lid. When the trunk was finally open, I noticed that the trunk light didn't work either.
I then checked the wires on both sides hinges and found a broken wire on the right hand side, just inside the plastic "hose" that allows the wires to twist when the trunk is opened.
In my case, the brown wire was cut off like with scissors. For testing, I temporarily connected the copper wires and everything worked

I also had an intermittent problem with the reversing camera, which was caused by another damaged wire. This was one of the blue wires. I think it is power or signal for the camera flap as the image was shown only for 1-2 seconds and then turned black. Fixing this wire fixed the problem with the reversing camera.

Hi,
How did you got in the book to open manually the lid? As I have a convertible e class and the switch for rear seats is also in the boot.
