Issue Booting Up of NAV Screen

Anyone experience an issue whereby when you start the car, the NAV screen doesn't boot up properly
and remains black? The radio function won't work either but the back up camera works fine and the temperature display at the bottom of the screen still shows
properly.
Has happened about 4 times thus far.
Just turning off the car doesn't fix it.
I have to lock the door as well for a while.

Sounds like your car may have a loose wire connection someplace, or it could be that the unit is kaput. I'd spend the money and take it to a dealer or competent garage that specializes in MB to diagnose and fix the problem — most people would find that nearly impossible to do themselves, especially without damaging the car even more.

I don’t think it’s a wire because the screen works as mentioned above with the rear camera and temperature level.
I think it its a booting problem. Doesn’t happen often.

Hi dudley07726
If it doesnt happen very often/irregular. You may have a low battery. I have noticed on mine it happened twice. Each time, i was in/out of my car a lot and car wasnt getting charged up, aslo may have been sitting for a bit.

Maybe throw a chager/battery tender on your battery and see if the battery is low and let it charge over night. Otherwise as others have suggested, maybe time for dealer.

Hope this is helpful,
Tim

It just happened to me as you described. Car has a year old battery but hasn't been run much lately so it may be the low battery issue mentioned earlier. I had shut off the engine and gotten out of the car for about a minute and I was in range of the key fob the whole time. When I got back in everything was black. I tried to restart the engine but only temp and time was visible then screen went black. When I got home and pulled in the garage parking sensors worked and screen was active. I shut everything down for about 5 minutes and it all worked again when I restarted the engine.

I'll come back to the thread if it happens again and I can offer any clues.

A software update to the most current version may be helpful.

I've discovered that locking and unlocking the car seems to force the system to do a full reboot, which powering on / off doesn't.

If this is happening repeatedly, I'd expect that the system is storing the reason for the failure to boot and therefore I would take it in as a warranty issue.

Note that it does seem that the system is partitioned into things essential for driving and things not essential - I've had two occasions that I recall where, actually while driving, the essential stuff kept working and the non-essential stuff locked up.

I didn't take it in for maintenance as there wasn't a hard fault and the nuisance level was relatively low. If it was happening every week, I'd be asking MB to fix it.

@BenzC400 's comment would be normal in my world of complex hardware software - perhaps there is a corruption and a reload would be a good first step.

However I have tried and failed to identify a list of latest software releases for MBUX-equipped vehicles and just spent 20 minutes trying to get my dealer to answer that question - their answer is bring it in, we'll plug in the diagnostic tool and it will tell them if there are any software updates available. Not impressed - I should be able to compare a list to what's in the system.

Does anyone know if that list is available to us?
