Question E450 4-Matic Cabrio Advice

Hi everyone,

I'm new to MB world and this forum. I'm retired and looking for a nice, reliable and comfy cabrio as a second car. I like power, but nothing too crazy. I never owned a Mercedes, so perhaps it is time to buy one. Reliability is important to me, together with style and comfort. I admit I very much like the design of E series cabrios, the E450 4-matic cars, but models prior to hybridization and iPad like digital displays. I'm looking at a 2020 model year with low miles (30k miles or so). The examples I found are listed at app. 50% of the original list price, which seems reasonable. Based on what I read so far, the V6 engine is solid, no major issues with the brakes or drivetrain in general. The main thing that gets a lot of complaints on these forums seems to be the cabrio roof and the cords that tend to fail rather frequently, particularly on 2018 and 2019 models. How serious is this issue and should I be worried about any other issues with the 2020 model year. I plan to keep the car long term. Any advice would be very much appreciated or feel free to point me to any particular thread if discussed previously.

I have a 2018 E400 cabrio that my wife drives. The car has been somewhat flawless after 45K miles, we purchased it with around 12K miles in 2020 and have only had to do routine maintenance on it with the exception of the roof cords. MB replaced them all under warranty around 3 years ago and the new set does not seem to have the same fraying issues that the original set had. Not sure if they changed something but so far so good. The dealer did tell me that the job out of warranty would be around 6K, but the kit to do the job is only around 300 dollars so most of the cost is in labor. There is a post in this forum about how to do it yourself if you are so inclined and it sounds like a pretty tedious and time consuming job. I love the car and will probably keep it for several more years. I have heard that the V6 they use in this car is one of the most reliable motors that MB makes. Plenty of pep for my wife and it is a fun car. If you are worried, just get a fidelity warranty when you buy the car but just be aware that most warranties do not cover convertible tops. I would get as low of mileage as you can find as the mileage drives the aftermarket warranty costs.

@superpop Thank you very much for a quick reply. One question I forgot to ask-do rear seats fold?
