Intermittent brake system question...
Today I twice noticed that my brake pedal went to the floor and there was absolutely no stopping power. I pumped the brakes for a second or two and it was restored. This happened twice on my way to Philadelphia, but only when the vehicle was being driven very slow - to pay tolls or enter my garage.
I checked the car once it was parked, and there was fluid covering the inside of the front left wheel.
Despite this, the brakes are NOW totally normal. Very firm. Great stopping power.
I'm getting it into a shop before I drive it more, but was curious - just what could cause this? With the brake fluid all over the wheel, I imagine that it's "something" but what could eliminate my brakes, spray fluid all over and then "fix" itself and go back to normal?
I imagine that the flexible hose may be the cause, but wanted opinions first. It is in a city garage so I can't do much more.
Anyway, just was curious as to what it could be. Both times there were NO BRAKES, but pumping the pedal a few times seemed to fix it.
Im my experience, this shouldn't happen. If it's the caliper, it should STAY broken, right? We learn something new every day though so I thought I'd ask here first.
I'll call my shop tomorrow. Just was hoping for some opinions. Thanks so much. All the best! :-)
