Indie MB mechanic recco for Chicago area
Apologies in advance if this isn't the right place for this, but I just bought a W123 and I'm looking for a reputable independent M-B mechanic in the Chicagoland area. I'm sure dealers charge an arm and a leg and aren't really familiar with dealing with older models.
Any recommendations? Any you'd advise staying away from? The car's in good shape overall but I'm looking for someone to diagnose/fix an inoperable electric sunroof and a couple other small things.
If you think the sunroof is a reasonable DIY job, let me know. I'm not super familiar with these cars and I'm basically a novice as far as working on cars in general (can do things like oil changes, replacing parts like alternators, etc., doing brakes). Is there a service manual you'd recommend picking up--either factory or something like Hanes?
