Looking for advice

I'm in the market for a 4 door car an have seen a number of 300D's in my price range. I have heard that the W123 and W124 Mercedes vehicles are very reliable by wanted to get some input before plunking down the cash. Are the 1980-1985 300D's good? Are there hidden costs I should know about? What is a good mileage to look for? Is there something better out there by MB for 1500-2000?

Thanks a bunch!
Brian

The 300d are good cars but just like any thing else stuff will break. If your mechanical I would go for it (labor can cost a lot $$$). Parts are inexpensive and there not that difficult to work on. Try to find one with little or no rust, rust has killed four of the seven I've owned. The drivetrain will outlast the car if proper maintance is done. Mileage wise I wouldn't want to buy anything with more then 200,000 but I would consider one with higher miles if the car and drivetrain where taken care of and in good condition. Good luck with your search
